New Power Supply

Friday, July 7th, 2006

On Monday I recieved my new power supply from Newegg. Prior to getting this new one, my computer had had stability issues when running 2 gigs of ram. Removing one of the stick temporarily fixed the problem, but I found that it made game performance sluggish. Now, with a new more capable power supply, I can return to 2 gigs of bliss.

Here’s a picture of my new PSU:
My new power supply, OCZ GameXStreme 600

It’s a OCZ GameXStream 600, which boasts about 125 more watts of power (600) than my previous power supply, the Rosewill RP 500. I gave my old power supply to a friend, who said it made his processor overheat. I’ll believe it when I see it! Regrettably, this new power supply is a bit noisier than my old one, but it gets the job done!

Summer Job

Friday, July 7th, 2006

This summer, like last summer, I’m working at a little company called EDT. They design, manufacture, and sell PCI boards that allow you to connect your computer to various types of professional digital video cameras that are use in applications such as manufacturing, inspecting product, medical imaging, aerial photography, and security.

My first job this summer was to create and maintain their updated website. As you can see here, their current website needs a lot of work. My supervisor gave me a PSD with a design on it, and my job was to convert it into a fully fledged 100 page website. I finished up work on the project during my first week. You can see a preview here.

Now, I’m starting to get into real engineering. My second project is to update an existing addon card. The new card will be able to process data faster and more efficiently. I believe the addon card is used to allow current EDT boards to communicate via USB, but I’m not completely sure.

As the summer progresses, I’ll update more!

8 Ways to kill someone using an iPod Nano

Friday, June 30th, 2006

From http://www.mcsweeneys.net/2006/6/23fleming.html,

1. Break it in half with your hands (very easy to do) and use the glass viewing screen’s broken edge as a razorblade to slice the jugular when they are looking the other way.

2. Take off one sock (a dress or tube sock; pantyhose will work in a pinch), place the Nano in the sock, swing it around as fast as you can (being careful to not hit yourself), and whack the intended target right on the temple.

3. Take the reflective shiny part and catch the sun’s ray and shine it in a vehicle driver’s eyes, or if you are at a rock concert and the lead singer is prancing around on a center stage that protrudes into the audience like a phallus, you can use the same technique.

4. The cord on the earbud headphones can be used to strangle someone. A knee in the back can give extra leverage.

5. Dig a pit about 5 feet deep, then take about 15 3-foot-long stakes 2 inches in diameter and sharpen one end to a fine point, like a very sharp pencil. Jam the sticks at least a foot into the ground, with the sharp ends pointing up. Cover the hole with pine boughs, grass, and leaves. Treat the Nano like a slice of cheese pizza in a deep, hot oven and place it gently in the middle.

6. Carefully unstaple a tea bag and pour the contents on a plate. Break into the lithium-ion battery pack and saturate the tea with the battery’s poison, then dry the tea in the sun (or with a hair dryer if you are in a hurry). Put tea back in tea bag and bend the staple back to its original position. Put the tea bag back where you got it.

7. Download to the Nano “We’ve Only Just Begun” by the Carpenters. Tell someone you will give him or her your Nano if they listen to that song a hundred times in a row.

8. Hide the Nano in a bowl of lutefisk, then take it to the annual Norsefest Lutefisk Eating Competition in Madison, Minnesota

Black and Blue

Monday, June 5th, 2006

A couple friends from school are developing a Halo 2 series based on Red vs Blue called Black and Blue. You can check out their first episode and trailer here. From what I understand, they have many more episodes either written or nearing completion. Enjoy!

Spider Spider Spider FANKRISS

Monday, June 5th, 2006

The most recent horror from Cuttlefish comes in the form of a flash movie! Based on the popular Badger Badger Badger flash movie comes a brand new feature! Check out Spider Spider Spider!

The movie depicts monsters from the Fankriss fight in World of Warcraft. I got the idea while Nalk was lying dead and someone in Ventrilo yelled out “Ack it’s a snake!”

Enjoy!
