Friday, January 25th, 2008

In addition to my own endorsement, Obama now also is endorsed by the Brown and Black Zunes!

Kucinich is out =(

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Well, Kucinich is going to announce later today that he has called it quits on his presidential campaign in order to focus on his reelection to Congress. While I didn’t expect Kucinich to drop out so soon (in fact, I lost 200 points on Politico’s KingMaker because of this), I understand his reasoning. I’d rather have him spend time campaigning at home for Congress than lose both races. Kucinich in any form of American politics makes me a happy Democrat.

With Kucinich out, CuttlefishTech now officially endorses Barack Obama. This means Barack now gets free advertising on my banner! Myspace Banner too! Yay!

Tomorrow I will wear a Black Armband, which will commemorate Kucinich’s withdrawal and my endorsement of Obama. I’ll make Tuesday another “All brown for Obama” day too!

In other news, Mike Gravel has recently been pursuing Kucinich’s bid to impeach Dick Cheney. Good going, Mike! This has earned you #2 on my Top 12 on Myspace =p

Random fact(s) of the Day

Fact: The clock in my room is set an hour ahead.

Last time Daylight savings rolled around, I was too lazy to update my clock. And I still haven’t updated it. I’ve mostly gotten used to it, though I still ocassionallu freak out before school, as it appears that I’ll be quite late!

Fact: I have a large poster of Bush in my room.

When Mr. Cleveland retired at the end of last year, he had a stack of posters that he was giving away to students. Being the most political, I lay claim to the Bush poster. I inteded to give it to a friend, or burn it, or something like that. But when I got home I noticed a big bare spot on my wall. Now it hangs overlooking my bed so that every morning when I wake up and light my head, the first thing I see is our president. It’s quite humorous.

Invention project for Physics!

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

We were assigned the following in our physics class about a month ago:

Design and construct a device which will most accurately and precisely find the mass, in grams, of an object having a mass between 50 and 500 grams.

I finally got around to working on this on Friday. My first design used springs as the basis for measurement and pulleys to amplify the distance traveled by the object to be weighed in order to enhance precision. My first goal was to find some suitable springs. I had some that I’d bought a couple weeks earlier, but none of them were sensitive enough to move when 50g was hung from them. I found different springs at Ace Hardware that were sensitive enough on the low end, but had trouble on the higher end. I ended up using them anyway, though in my brief tests they stretched a bit too far and no longer functioned like new. But I think they would’ve still worked good enough to get a semi-accurate reading.

While the design may have been good in theory, the pulleys created too much friction and the scale was not accurate. I found that I could pull the weight bucket further down, and the friction caused the springs to be unable to pull the bucket back up to where it was. I ditched the idea and tried to move on.

My new idea is still secret (I have to win after all), but it involves this somehow:

And earlier today it spilled and got me all wet =(

lolspam

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

So, something happened this past week that tripled my Spam intake…

Up until this point, I didn’t use any junk mail filtering, because I never really had enough to warrant it. But this week began driving me crazy. Since I have my own email, something simple like junk mail filtering isn’t readily available. My webhost uses SpamAssassin, but apparently it hasn’t been updated in aeons and it was still only catching about 1/3rd of my spam. Which was quite annoying. And for some reason Outlook doesn’t like to filter email from IMAP hosts (which is the only way to check your email). So, I was left with few options.

I had previously been forwarding all my Gmail email to my cuttlefishtech.com address, but with the recent spam outbreak, I decided to switch and go the other way around. Now my cuttlefishtech.com forwards to my Gmail and gets filtered there. It makes virtually no difference to me, as I can rig Outlook to fetch spam from Gmail. It’s actually nicer, because I set up a whole bunch of IMAP folders that are filtered instantly by Google rather than by Outlook. The only problem I see is my current method of retrieving email at school may need to be updated (though on the plus side, anyone else that wants to check their Gmail at school will be able to). Oh, and there also seems to be a bit more latency, which is odd. Could just be Myspace is hella slow tonight.
